Corncob husk Witch

Witch (Befana) created entirely by hand with corncob husk and completed by a little broom. This particular person is the protagonist of Epiphany, when she comes with her broom for bringing to children sweets or carbon. The Befana is a very nice hanging decoration, perfect also as original gift idea for every year’s season.

Possible imperfections or minor differences of the product compared to the photo indicate the high craftsmanship of a handmade product. It is recommended not to wet the product, to avoid damaging it.

HISTORY

A production that is completely handmade and that nowadays remains alive in very few places, the scus (workings of the corncob leaf) had a great success and demand until a few decades ago. Today there are still several artisans from the Val del Torre area (in the province of Udine) who carry on this tradition and offer marvellous creations.

La Cort has chosen to offer these articles because they are deeply characteristic of the peasant economy of past times and yet at the same time have evolved so that they also offer objects for everyday use.
